Here's a new one on me
I sliced open the last one of a batch of tomatoes I got a couple weeks ago at the produce place. Inside the little pockets were slender white things about 1/2 inch long or so. I thought, "Ugh, worms!" However, they weren't moving. I poked at them and they were crisp like beans sprouts. I pulled one out and there was a tomato seed at the end.... more »

OT - PING Morrow
"Gregory Morrow" <SneckoryMor...@sneckorymorrow .com> ...I haven't read the play. Ohhh... too bad the movie wasn't released a couple of decades later. Can you imagine the sequels if they had allowed Rhodo to live in the original? Maybe some creative producer will come along and resurrect her and continue the saga.... more »

Dungeness Crab Feast?
We've had several impromptu pig-outs where we would buy a couple of Dungeness crabs, boil chill and then . . . THAT would be dinner. Any suggestions as to what would be a reasonable accompaniment . . . other than hot French bread and cold beer (or chilled Viognier, or fume blanc).

Artisan Rye Bread Result (sorry I just posted this w/o a subject)
Well, once I got the yeast "packet" measurement right, and thanks to Melba and the others who responded to me about that, I made the dough yesterday. Just a few observations: I make a half-recipe of any of the artisan breads using this half-recipe: 1-1/2 cups Lukewarm Water 100 degrees 3/4 TBSP Yeast... more »

Welfare babies, greasy diners and other tidbits
Welfare babies, greasy diners and other tidbits Yes it's James and yes I'm back to express my opinions on several hot topics germane to the here and now. First, nigs on welfare. Because these women can't seem to understand the concept of using birth control and because they appear all to eager to spread their legs to... more »

The Folgers I was talking about
Is arabica, marketed under the name "Folgers Gourmet Selections Bold Java." It's not for those of you who grind you own beans and grow them too, but it's a very nice dark roast packaged coffee.

Correct amount of rosewater?
Anyone used to using rosewater? In a cake recipe i have the following: 8 dl flour, 200 gr butter, 2 eggs, and c 2 dl sugar How much rosewater would you add to this? I wonder if it is my bottle of rosewater that is bad, or me doing something strange or the fact the it's done in the oven that's making things not tasting much of rosewater at all.... more »

Gifts from Hatch
My daughter has sent me a gift package containing Hatch green chili powder, mild Hatch red chili powder and Jalapeņo powder. How do I best make use of them? I can figure out using them to make soup, but how else do the locals use them? I can use them in making Pico de Gallo, but what about Pork Chili... more »

On using pressure cookers...
Many moons ago, someone here told me to always wet the seal on the pressure cooker prior to starting as I was sometimes having minor issues with getting a proper seal. I do that all the time now and it has worked like a charm. :-) I don't remember who it was, but I just wanted to say "Thank you"! I'm just starting a batch of ham skin stock with celery tops, onion,... more »
